Chloe Cherry and her step-mother, Cory Chase, return home from a will reading. Cory says she can't believe that Chloe inherited EVERYTHING from the death of Chloe's father. How is Cory supposed to continue on? Chloe is appalled by her step-mother's unsympathetic words, demanding that she be more respectful! Her father's GONE. She would trade all the possessions in the world to have him back! Cory smiles sweetly and says that if Chloe doesn't care about any of the stuff, then maybe she wouldn't mind letting Cory have some of it...? This is too much for Chloe, who demands that Cory pack her bags and go. 'I KNEW it! You never loved my dad! He must've known that you were a gold-digger, too, since he left NOTHING to you.' Cory gasps and tries to fake being shocked, but isn't very good at it. 'That's not true! I loved your father very dearly!'The tension between Chloe and Cory intensifies with Chloe mentioning other times Cory has been vain and self-centered in the past. For instance, Cory never made an effort to get to know Chloe in the past couple of years and that she's literally the worst step-mother. Cory insists that THAT'S not true either. 'Oh, yeah? What's my hamster's name?' Chloe challenges. Cory frowns and thinks a moment, then hesitantly says, 'Fluffy...?' Chloe points accusingly at her. 'Ah HA! That's a trick question -- I don't HAVE a hamster!'Cory's eyes are wide, knowing that the gig is up, and she starts begging to be allowed to stay in the house -- at least until she can get back on her feet! She has nowhere else to go! Chloe calms down a fraction, and asks why can't Cory move in with her friend, Laura, who she's ALWAYS talking about? Cory makes up some excuse, like Laura is actually very high maintenance and she can only take her in small doses. The irony is not lost on Chloe, who raises her brow.Finally, after Cory begs some more, Chloe sighs. She says that Cory can stay as long as she changes her ways, which means doing EXACTLY as Chloe says so that
