Making a bravura return to the screen, Kirk Douglas plays an aging ex-boxer (like Douglas, recovering from a stroke) who tires of living with his son's family in Canada. A visit from another son, sportswriter Dan Aykroyd, leads Douglas to talk him and grandson Corbin Allred into joining him in a trip to Nevada to look for a hidden fortune in gems that will allow Douglas to live independently.
